A commonly used color scale to evaluate the pollution levels in both water and waste water is the Platinum-Cobalt scale (Pt/Co scale or Apha-Hazen scale).
This test method is specific to the color yellow and is based on dilutions of a standard platinum cobalt solutions as defined by ASTM designation D1209 "Standard test method for color of clear liquids (Platinum-Cobalt Scale), International Standard ISO 6271-1:2004(E) "Clear liquids - Estimation of color by the platinum cobalt scale" and BS5339:76 (1993) "Measurement of Color on Hazen Units / Platinum-Cobalt".
Additional application areas for the Pt-Co/Apha-/Hazen color scale include polymer additives, resin solutions, and solvents such as hexane, glycerol, methanol, mineral oils etc.
The Kemtrak DCP007 is a maintenance free industrial photometric analyzer that can accurately monitor water color from highly polluted waters (>1000 Pt/Co units) down to clear liquids at <1 Pt/Co units.
The Kemtrak DCP007 uses a combination of long life,
solid state LED lamps with fiber optics that provide
a measurement with very high precision. Thanks
to a proprietary dual wavelength four channel
measurement technique, high concentration to ppm
trace analysis is no problem.
The Kemtrak DCP007 uses a reference wavelength to compensate for turbidity and/or fouling of the optical windows providing accurate measurements with low drift and long term calibration stability.
