The Platinum-Cobalt (Pt-Co) color scale measures the “yellowness” of a liquid and is well suited for quality control and contamination detection.

The Pt‑Co scale is used to evaluate pollution levels in waste water and for drinking water quality control and regulation. The Pt-Co scale can also be used to measure and control the concentration of iron in groundwater.

The Kemtrak DCP007 LED process photometer is a maintenance free industrial photometric analyzer that can accurately monitor water color from highly polluted waters (>1000 Pt/Co units) down to clear liquids at <1 Pt/Co units. Real time measurement results are displayed in units of PCU (Pt/Co), Hazen or APHA.

The Kemtrak DCP007 LED process photometr uses a high performance long life LED light source with robust industrial fiber optics to provide a measurement with very highprecision. A proprietary dual wavelength four channel measurement technology allows accurate measurement of both highly colored and trace color levels. The primary “absorbing” UV-VIS wavelength accurately measures water color, while the second reference NIR wavelength, which is not influenced by the water color, compensates for turbidity and/or fouling of the optical windows.

Since optic fibers are used to transfer light to the measurement point and back, the measurement cell contains no electronics, moving parts or sources of heat.

Standard measurement cells are manufactured in robust sanitary grade stainless steel and use sapphire windows to provide a long and maintenance free operation.

Calibration is simplified using an automated QuickCal one point calibration. Measurement drift from LED light or filter aging is negligible and instrument recalibration is not required.

In-line liquid and gas color, concentration and turbidity measurement - Kemtrak industrial process fiber optic photometer


Chlorine (Cl2) and chlorine dioxide (ClO2) are important chemicals for water purification, in disinfectants, and in bleach. They are used as biocides in many industrial water treatment applications including cooling towers, process water and food processing.

Chlorine dioxide has a strong absorption between 350 and 500nm that the Kemtrak DCP007 LED process photometer can measure – from ultra low parts per million concentrations when used for gas detection or disinfection, to high concentration solutions used for the bleaching of pulp (>10 g/L).

The Kemtrak DCP007 LED process photometer can be used to optimize the reaction efficiency of ClO2 generation, improve the control of vent-gas scrubbers to reduce emissions into the atmosphere and for monitoring the final concentration of chlorine dioxide product sent to the bleaching plant.

Chlorine dioxide is an aggressive chemical substance – all wetted parts of the Kemtrak measurement cells are manufactured from corrosion resistant materials, such as PTFE, titanium, hastelloy, monel and sapphire.

Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent used to kill microorganisms in air and water sources. Many municipal drinking water systems kill bacteria with ozone instead of the more common chlorine.

Ozone strongly absorbs at wavelenghts below 400nm (UV) that the Kemtrak DCP007-UV LED process photmeter can easily measure. The Kemtrak DCP007-UV uses a long life high performance UV LED light source with robust industrial grade fiber optics to produce a drift and noise-free measurement with very high precision.

A proprietary dual wavelength four channel measurement technique and advanced digital electronics design allows deep absorbance measurement to 5 AU. A range of shorter optical pathlengths allow for deeper absorbance easurements. Automatic compensation for sample turbidity and/or fouling of the optical windows ensures trouble free operation.
